SPC Samlip 'Samlip Hobang', Fermented Rice Chewy Texture & Unique Fillings '好好'

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-sun] A new product of the representative winter "national snack," Hobbang, has been released.

SPC Samlip has selected broadcaster Yoo Jae-suk as the advertising model for the winter representative snack "Samlip Hobbang" and launched 23 new products. Samlip Hobbang, the first winter bread released in Korea in 1971, surpassed a cumulative sales volume of 6.2 billion units last season.

SPC Samlip developed "Fermented Rice Alpha" and applied it to all Hobbang products. Based on 50 years of accumulated Hobbang manufacturing technology, "Fermented Rice Alpha" combines patented native lactic acid bacteria and ingredients extracted from Korean rice with rice saccharification liquid (sugar produced by fermenting rice and nuruk), enhancing the unique umami of rice as well as a chewy and moist texture.

This year, Samlip Hobbang introduces various unique products reflecting trends. One of them is spicy Hobbang targeting young consumers. They launched "Rose Hobbang," which adds spicy gochujang and soft fresh cream; "Nashville Hobbang," featuring the sharp chili flavor inspired by hot chicken from Nashville, USA; and "Baehongdong Hobbang," using the spicy bibim noodle sauce "Baehongdong" as part of a collaboration with Nongshim. The product packaging incorporates Yoo Jae-suk's sub-character concept to add fun.

They also released Hobbang with flavors that became popular on social networking services (SNS). These include "Mint Choco Hobbang," matching the mint-chocolate trend favored by "Mincho-dan" (people who like mint and chocolate), and collaborations with Haepyo reflecting grandmother's taste, such as "Perilla Oil Spicy King Hobbang" and "Sesame Oil Chive King Hobbang." Retro-inspired products are also introduced. Using the nostalgic 2000s character "Holman," three new products are launched: "Honey Seed Hobbang," "Sweet Pumpkin Cheese Hobbang," and "Cloud Soda Hobbang."

Additionally, reflecting the recent home meal and solo meal culture, "Meal-type Hobbang" that can be enjoyed as a convenient meal substitute is released. These include "Handon Pork Hobbang" with 100% domestic pork and cabbage, "Meat-filled Manppang" packed with pork and chives, and soul food-inspired "Steamed Galbi Hobbang," "Kimchi Pork Hobbang," and "Omori Kimchi Manppang." The meal-type Hobbang is packaged as a single serving to reflect the single-person household trend and applies the patented packaging technology "Hobbang Steam Pack," which allows a moist texture without using a steamer.

Moreover, SPC Samlip offers a season-limited set combining "Hojji Mug," designed to enjoy Korea's representative winter snack "Samlip Hobbang" conveniently and practically, together with Hobbang.
