[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Seo Dae-seok) announced on the 21st that it operated the ‘Elderly Park Playground,’ a special leisure space for the elderly, at Ssanghak Children's Park on the 20th.
The event was held with the participation of about 90 elderly people from nearby senior centers such as Sangmu 2-dong and Hwajeong 4-dong.
The event began with a busking performance by the Elderly Volunteer Club members, followed by various programs including the game “Mugunghwa Flower Has Bloomed,” pet plant cultivation, nail art, and rubber shoe succulent art. Additionally, dementia tests for the elderly and free legal consultations by Seo-gu Office’s Legal Home Doctor were provided.
During the “Mugunghwa Flower Has Bloomed” game, the elderly showed their efforts not to be caught by the seeker, reflecting their mischievous childhood, and happiness was evident in their eyes.
Seo-gu is the first in Gwangju to operate the Elderly Park Playground by touring three parks?Nongseong Park, Ssanghak Children's Park, and Sinam Neighborhood Park?breathing vitality into the daily lives of the elderly who might otherwise feel depressed and lethargic due to COVID-19.
Seo Dae-seok, Mayor of Seo-gu, said, “I am glad to meet many elderly people after a long time. I hope you actively participate in various programs and create good memories. Once we transition to With-Corona, phased daily recovery will be possible, so please take good care of your health until then.”
Meanwhile, Seo-gu is sharing vehicles equipped with wheelchair boarding facilities so that elderly family members with mobility difficulties can enjoy leisure activities.
Since the end of last month, Seo-gu has also been hosting the Seo-gu Silver Singing Contest to diversify leisure activities for the elderly, and is promoting various filial piety projects such as providing the Hyodream allowance to households caring for parents aged 80 or older.
