Enhancing Visibility in 15 Children's Safety Zones Including Girincho
[Jeonju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] Jeonju City announced on the 21st that it will install yellow carpets at crosswalks near 15 elementary schools by the end of next month to enhance the visibility of child protection zones.
According to the city, yellow carpets are traffic safety facilities that mark the ground or walls in yellow to make drivers easily recognize them and to have children wait safely before crossing the crosswalk.
They are especially known to be effective in preventing traffic accidents on the way to and from school for children, who are short and not easily visible.
The installation of yellow carpets is being promoted to expand traffic safety facilities that enhance driver visibility amid significantly strengthened punishment standards for traffic accidents in child protection zones, and to provide students with a safe route to and from school. It is being implemented with a total support of 76 million KRW from the Provincial Office of Education.
The locations where yellow carpets will be installed are: Girin Elementary, Jeonju Elementary, Yangji Elementary, Jigok Elementary, Munjeong Elementary, Yongheung Elementary, Seomun Elementary, Deokil Elementary, Songcheon Elementary, Jochon Elementary, Manseong Elementary, Dongsin Elementary, Pyeonghwa Elementary, Ajung Elementary, and Mansu Elementary.
In addition, Jeonju City has decided to operate a prompt maintenance and repair system for damaged traffic safety facilities to always create a safe child protection zone.
