Road Traffic Authority Conducts Mandatory Driver Education on Child Injury Accidents in School Zones

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-ju] The Korea Road Traffic Authority announced on the 21st that, following the enforcement of the revised Road Traffic Act, it will mandate education for those involved in child injury or fatality accidents within child protection zones.

Previously, only drivers whose licenses were suspended or revoked due to causing child injury or fatality accidents within child protection zones were required to undergo mandatory legal education. However, with the enforcement of the revised law, anyone who causes a child injury or fatality accident within a child protection zone must undergo mandatory education regardless of license status.

The required education is the Special Traffic Safety Education Compliance Course operated by the Korea Road Traffic Authority. Drivers will receive 6 hours of training covering traffic environment and culture, basics of safe driving, traffic psychology and behavioral theory, risk prediction and defensive driving, driving style diagnosis, and understanding of traffic-related laws.

The education is conducted offline and requires prior reservation. After accessing the Korea Road Traffic Authority's Safe Driving Integrated Civil Service website, individuals can select their preferred date and location to make a reservation.

The Authority stated, "With the mandatory education for those involved in child injury or fatality accidents within child protection zones now in effect, we expect it to contribute to improving child traffic safety," adding, "We will continuously strive to achieve significant results by producing various educational content."
