Food Transition in the Era of Climate Crisis... Seoul City Hosts 'Urban Food International Conference'


[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 21st that it will hold the 'Seoul Urban Food International Conference 2021' on the 25th to discuss sustainable food systems with overseas cities in response to the rapidly progressing global climate change.


The Seoul Urban Food International Conference 2021, under the theme 'Transition of Urban Food Systems in Response to the Climate Crisis,' is an opportunity to share the experiences and strategies of various cities in implementing urban food systems in this era of an unavoidable climate crisis, and will be held via online live streaming.


Session 1 will feature presentations and discussions under the theme 'Building Sustainable and Healthy Food Systems in the Era of the Climate Crisis.' Park Yumi, Director of the Citizen Health Bureau of Seoul, will present the 'Seoul Food Policy 5-Year Basic Plan and Vision,' established based on six core values: health, security, coexistence, community, ecology, and happiness, aimed at creating a 'Sustainable Food City.'


Session 2 will introduce best practices from major cities under the theme 'Transition to Ecological Cities through Food Resource Recycling.' Andrea Magarini, Chair of the Eurocities Food Working Group from Milan, Italy, will share policies from Milan aimed at reducing food waste and greenhouse gases by 2050.


By hosting the international urban food conference under the theme of the 'Climate Crisis,' Seoul plans to reaffirm the importance of responding to the climate crisis and strengthen the transition of food systems.
