Yoon Seok-yeol, Former Prosecutor General, Reserved in Evaluating Remarks... "It Is Not Appropriate for the Blue House to Comment"
[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] The Blue House stated that the historical judgment regarding former President Jeon Du-hwan has already been concluded.
A senior official from the Blue House told reporters on the 20th, "It is not appropriate for the Blue House to comment on the remarks of a specific candidate," adding, "However, regarding former President Jeon Du-hwan, I believe the historical and judicial judgments have already been finalized."
Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate from the People Power Party, sparked controversy by claiming that "many people say that except for the military coup and the May 18 Gwangju Uprising, his politics were good" in reference to former President Jeon.
On the 20th, Yoon explained on his Facebook, "During the military dictatorship of the Jeon Du-hwan regime, Kim Jae-ik, then the Blue House economic chief secretary, was recognized as an 'economic president' for his expert capabilities. I wanted to emphasize that it is important for a president to effectively utilize talented individuals so that they can fulfill their roles for the people."
