[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Lee Jae-myung, the presidential candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea, criticized the apartment development project in Yangpyeong carried out by the family of Yoon Seok-yeol, the presidential candidate of the People Power Party, on the 20th, saying it was "almost like lawless people."
On this day, attending the National Assembly Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee's audit of the Gyeonggi Provincial Government as the governor of Gyeonggi Province, Lee made this remark during a Q&A session responding to Democratic Party lawmaker Park Sang-hyuk's questions pointing out issues related to the Yangpyeong apartment project implemented by Yoon's family. Lawmaker Park pointed out that Yangpyeong County retroactively extended the development project approval. In response, Lee said, "This is almost illegal administration."
Lawmaker Park also pointed out, "At that time, Yoon was the head of the Yeoju Prosecutor's Office, and Kim Seon-gyo of the People Power Party was the mayor of Yangpyeong County," suggesting, "Could illegal acts have occurred within this relationship?"
Regarding the criticism that the approval was retroactively extended, Lee said, "It's like extending the expiration date of food," and added, "Since this was pointed out even during the audit, I will order the audit office to conduct an investigation."
Referring to his own family history, Lee said, "Public officials are very likely to face such incidents. It is not enough to just leave it alone and not intervene; it must be actively prevented," and criticized, "It should be actively prevented, but in my opinion, I suspect that it was either not prevented or tacitly allowed."
