Korean Air Resumes Flights to Hawaii After 19 Months

[Asia Economy Reporter Dongwoo Lee] Korean Air announced on the 20th that it will resume flights on the Hawaii route starting from the 3rd of next month. This comes 19 months after suspending operations on April 3rd due to COVID-19.

Korean Air will operate the Incheon~Honolulu route a total of three times a week: one regular flight and two irregular flights. The outbound flight (KE053) departs Incheon Airport at 8:35 PM on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, arriving at Honolulu Airport in Hawaii at exactly 10:00 AM local time on the same day.

The return flight (KE054) departs Honolulu at 11:40 AM on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, arriving at Incheon Airport at 5:45 PM the following day.

Korean Air decided to resume operations in line with the recent increase in visitors due to the rising vaccination rate. The number of domestic travelers visiting Hawaii has rapidly increased from around 200 in January to about 1,000 per month recently.

Hawaii has been the top travel destination for several years in a survey conducted among Korean Air flight attendants. Before COVID-19, Korean Air operated the Incheon~Hawaii route twice daily, totaling 14 flights per week.

Korean Air stated, "Considering the overseas and domestic COVID-19 situation, the increase in vaccination rates, and the rise in overseas visitors, we will continuously review the resumption of suspended routes to ensure safe and enjoyable overseas travel."
