[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-ju] The police investigating the preferential treatment allegations in the Daejang-dong development project in Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province, have completed the recovery of a damaged mobile phone belonging to key figure Yoo Dong-gyu, former Planning Director of Seongnam Urban Development Corporation.
According to the police on the 20th, the Digital Forensic Center of the National Police Agency's National Investigation Headquarters repaired and unlocked the mobile phone that Yoo threw out the window and damaged.
On the 29th of last month, when the prosecution came for a search and seizure, Yoo threw his mobile phone out the window, and a passerby picked it up. The police secured this phone through analysis of closed-circuit television (CCTV) and inquiries. The phone was reported to be the latest model of the iPhone.
The dedicated investigation team of the Gyeonggi Southern Provincial Police Agency sent Yoo's mobile phone to the Digital Forensic Center of the National Police Agency's National Investigation Headquarters on the 12th, considering the seriousness of the case. The phone was severely damaged, so recovery work was carried out first.
In particular, it is reported that Yoo's side recently provided the iPhone password to the police. With the password secured, the digital forensic analysis is expected to proceed more quickly. The police plan to analyze call contents and files as soon as data recovery is completed. A police official said, "The digital forensic procedures will soon proceed normally."
The iPhone secured by the police is known to have been recently activated by Yoo. The old mobile phone is currently in the possession of the prosecution and under investigation.
