Samsung Electronics to Host 'Samsung Software Developer Conference' on July 17-18

[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] Samsung Electronics announced on the 20th that it will hold the 'Samsung Software Developer Conference (SSDC)' online for two days from the 17th to the 18th of next month. SSDC is an expanded and reorganized event from the 'Samsung Open Source Conference' that Samsung Electronics has been hosting since 2014, providing a platform for internal and external developers to exchange ideas across all areas of software, not just open source.

This SSDC will feature lectures and technical sessions by prominent domestic software developers in fields such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), 5G, Cloud, Big Data, and Robotics. The first day will be an internal event with Samsung Electronics employees participating to explore the growth vision for developers, while the second day will be an open event where any software developer can participate and share the latest software technologies.

On the second day of the conference, Seunghyun Jun, President of Samsung Research, will deliver the welcoming address, and Seungbeom Choi, Vice President of Samsung Research, will give the keynote speech on Samsung Electronics' open source software promotion strategy. Following this, Professor Hyesik Jang of Seoul National University, Korea’s first Python committer (a core developer using the Python programming language), will lecture on the completion of the COVID-19 virus genome map using Python. Samsung Electronics Wireless Business Division Executive Director Hyesoon Jung and Samsung Research Executive Director Baekjun Lim will give talks on changes in Samsung Electronics’ software development culture.

The technical sessions will include open source developers from various industries, including leading IT companies such as Microsoft and Kakao, as well as AI-related companies like Blue Prism, RevUp, and Tunib. Additionally, a meetup session conducted by four leading domestic developer communities will be held in a metaverse environment, allowing any developer to participate.

Software talents who have gone through Samsung Electronics’ social contribution programs will also participate in this event. Students Chaeyeon Yoon and Doyeon Kim, winners of the 2020 Grand Prize at the 'Samsung Junior SW Creation Contest,' and Junseo Park, winner of the Excellence Award, as well as outstanding trainees from the 5th class of the 'Samsung Software Academy For Youth (SSAFY),' will present their software development experiences.

President Seunghyun Jun said, "I hope this conference will be a place where software developers can collectively consider issues requiring global responses in preparation for the post-COVID-19 new normal era," adding, "We will continue to strengthen exchanges with developers in various fields to contribute to the expansion of the software ecosystem."

Detailed information about this conference can be found on the official website of the 'Samsung Software Developer Conference.' Registration is open from today until the day of the event, and pre-registered participants can ask questions and receive answers from speakers in real time.
