According to Mokpo Coast Guard on the 19th, at 6:39 p.m. the previous day, a report was received that coastal composite fishing boat A (1.29t, 2 crew members) collided with a reef and flooding occurred about 500m east of Hyodojido, Sinan-gun. Patrol vessels, coastal rescue boats from the substation, and the West Sea Special Rescue Team were urgently dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, the Coast Guard rescue team immediately boarded boat A, checked the safety status of the crew, shut off the fuel valve to prevent secondary accidents such as marine pollution and capsizing, and carried out dewatering operations.
Then, two Coast Guard divers entered the sea, found the damaged area, and sealed it off.
Thanks to the prompt action of the Mokpo Coast Guard, no casualties or marine pollution damage occurred except for flooding at the stern (rear part of the ship), and boat A was safely docked at Bukhang, Mokpo City at 9:16 p.m. that day.
A Mokpo Coast Guard official urged, “Please familiarize yourself with the terrain features of the fishing grounds such as reefs and shallow waters, always wear life jackets, carefully check navigation equipment and surroundings, and prioritize safety during fishing.”
