[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] On the 18th, the Changwon City Policy Research Institute held the 'Changwon Future Forum' with the attendance of Changwon city council members, Gyeongnam provincial council members, and research staff from the Changwon City Policy Research Institute.
At this Changwon Future Forum, participants engaged in a heated discussion on 'The Possibility of Introducing a Basic Income System: A Korean Perspective through the Case of France,' presented by Professor Choi In-sook of Korea University.
Professor Choi stated, "The basic income system is a mechanism that can reduce poverty and inequality. France is developing a model with bipartisan interest, and our country also needs to consider introducing basic income as an alternative to the limitations of the current welfare system."
She continued, "The realization of the basic income system, as seen in the case of France, will require many trials and errors. Above all, it is necessary to establish and present a clear concept of the basic income to be implemented."
Jeon Su-sik, director of the Changwon City Policy Research Institute, said, "This forum was a very valuable opportunity to understand and establish the concept of basic income," adding, "We will continue to invite experts from various fields to discuss the future of Changwon City."
