[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Jinju City, Gyeongnam Province, announced on the 18th the winning design for the architectural design competition of the 'Jinju Silk Museum,' which aims to preserve the cultural value of the silk industry with over 100 years of history and present a future vision.


A total of 36 firms participated in the Jinju Silk Museum architectural design competition. After technical and final evaluations, Jinju City selected five final works, including the winning entry 'The Flow.'


'The Flow,' submitted by the architectural firm 'Mui,' was praised for its modern expression of the symbolism and uniqueness of silk through the smooth flow of free curves.


The other four award-winning teams are With Architects Office and the joint entry team EEMY ARCHITECTURE+DESIGN (2nd place), OEL Architects Office and the joint entry team Bibibig Architects Office (3rd place), Atelier Michu Architects Office (4th place), and Safari Architects Office and the joint entry team catacombe (5th place).


The winning firm 'Mui' is granted the priority negotiation rights for the design contract, and the award-winning teams will receive a monetary prize.


Jinju City plans to invest 12.3 billion KRW in construction costs and will carry out the basic and detailed architectural design services next month. The Silk Museum, with a total floor area of 2,622㎡, will be built at the entrance of the Munsan-eup Silk Specialized Complex, with construction starting in 2022 and completion scheduled for 2023.


Mayor Cho Gyu-il stated, "Jinju is one of the world's top five renowned silk production areas. Once the Jinju Silk Museum, an experiential complex cultural space, is established, it will become the definitive landmark of Korean silk."
