[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] Song Young-gil, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, responded on the 18th to the criticism that public opinion favors a "regime change" by saying, "The election of candidate Lee Jae-myung also creates a new regime."
Appearing on CBS Radio's 'Kim Hyun-jung's News Show' that day, Song said, "President Moon Jae-in is not running again. Regardless of whether it is a regime change or not, a new regime is being formed."
He added, "We will inherit the basic line and strengths of the Moon Jae-in administration, but that does not mean simply reproducing it as it is."
He continued, "(Candidate Lee) was not a prime minister, minister, or a key figure in the Moon Jae-in administration. He served as governor of Gyeonggi Province and was not part of the core mainstream group," adding, "So there is an expectation for change."

Leader Song especially emphasized that candidate Lee's style differs from that of President Moon or the existing tendencies of the Democratic Party. He said, "President Moon is very kind-hearted. He places great importance on procedures..." and added, "There is a difference in style."
He also said, "'Lee Jae-myung is someone who gets things done if he says he will.' I clashed with Deputy Prime Minister Hong Nam-ki over the issue of nationwide disaster relief funds, but Gyeonggi Province simply decided to do it all," adding, "There is some difference."
Furthermore, Leader Song expressed hope that former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl would become the presidential candidate for the People Power Party. When asked, "Who would be the most difficult opponent for you against the People Power Party?" he firmly stated, "Whoever it is, this candidate (Lee) would be confident. Among them, the person we most hope for is candidate Yoon Seok-youl."
Regarding former Prosecutor General Yoon, Leader Song criticized, "Rather than seeing him as easy, he is the person with the least substance," calling it "a completely reckless debate."
