BJ Sentenced to 30 Years for Killing Female Employee After Refusing Exposure Broadcast

BJ Sentenced to 30 Years for Killing Female Employee After Refusing Exposure Broadcast

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daehyun] An internet broadcast host (BJ) who robbed and killed an employee for refusing the order to "wear revealing clothes on air" has been sentenced to 30 years in prison by the Supreme Court.

On the 19th, the Supreme Court's 2nd Division (Presiding Justice Cheon Daeyeop) announced that it upheld the lower court's ruling sentencing BJ A (40, male), who was charged with robbery and murder, to 30 years in prison.

Earlier, A was prosecuted for robbing 10 million won and killing his subordinate employee B (24, female) after she refused his demand to appear on the broadcast wearing revealing clothes during an overseas futures investment broadcast on the internet in March last year. It was investigated that A threatened B with a weapon, tied her up with a rope, received money via bank transfer, and then strangled her.

The first trial sentenced A to 35 years in prison, along with a 20-year electronic monitoring device (electronic anklet) order. At that time, the court stated, "The defendant expressed sorrow and longing for his young daughter whom he could not see due to imprisonment from the investigation stage to this court," and "The victim was also a precious daughter to her mother who could not be replaced by anything." It added, "Due to the defendant's crime, the mother will have to live with the pain of never seeing her precious daughter again," and emphasized, "The defendant has not been forgiven by the victim's family."

The second trial reduced the sentence somewhat to 30 years in prison and a 15-year electronic anklet order. The second trial court explained, "The defendant confessed the crime to his wife and surrendered to the police, continuously expressing remorse and apology," and "Considering various circumstances including his past mental health struggles and ongoing treatment, as well as the fact that he had taken a large amount of prescribed medication at the time of the crime, the sentence was determined."

The Supreme Court also agreed with this judgment and dismissed A's appeal.
