Gokseong-gun Future Education Foundation Successfully Completes Ecological Environment Planning Lecture Series

[Gokseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Cha Jongseon] The Jeonnam Gokseong-gun Future Education Foundation announced on the 18th that it has completed the first session of the ‘Soil, Trees, and Forest’ course held this year to enhance local community ecological sensitivity and environmental protection practices.

‘Soil, Trees, and Forest’ is a planned course operated in a small group format of about 15 people over three sessions, linking local educational resources such as the ‘National Healing Forest’ and the residents’ cooperative ‘Maeul Yeonguso’ (Village Research Institute).

The course was designed with ecological environmental education and related experiences, adhering to the principle of conducting all processes in an eco-friendly manner, including promotional lettering blocks made from used cardboard boxes, pouches made from discarded banners, and zero-waste souvenirs.

The sessions, held on the mornings of Saturdays, October 3rd, 9th, and 16th, included: the first session featuring a lecture by Jeongopil, CEO of Imokgusimseo, titled ‘How to Cultivate Ecological Sensitivity for a Sustainable Life’ and a Healing Forest experience program; the second session with a lecture by Shin Minjeong from the Gwangju Environmental Movement Federation titled ‘Our Trash Obsession for Plastic-Free Daily Life’ and an upcycling gardening experience; and the third session consisting of making spoons and chopsticks by hand and a woodcarving experience.

In particular, the experience programs gained more significance as local instructors participated: the upcycling gardening marked the debut of a local young instructor, and the woodcarving was conducted together with the residents’ cooperative ‘Namu Yeonguso’ (Wood Research Institute), which also introduced its self-developed portable woodworking machine called ‘Kkomjjakma’ for the first time.

A participant, Mr./Ms. A, said, “I realized I must start separating and disposing of milk cartons properly from now on,” adding, “I was able to deeply empathize with protecting the environment in daily life.”

A representative of the Gokseong-gun Future Education Foundation stated that they plan to organize ‘Soil, Trees, and Forest’ as a regular program to foster interest in the local environment and sustainable living, providing an opportunity for growth as ecological citizens.
