[Asia Economy (Sejong) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Sejong City will implement paid parking at the new town complex community center (hereinafter referred to as "Bokcom") parking lots.
The city announced on the 18th that starting from the 21st, parking lots at 13 Bokcom locations across 11 districts will become paid.
Until now, Bokcom parking lots have suffered from chronic parking shortages due to long-term parking and insufficient parking spaces, leading to continuous complaints about parking inconveniences.
In response, the city explained that it decided to implement paid parking at Bokcom lots to resolve parking inconveniences for complainants and to efficiently manage parking demand.
The Bokcom locations where paid parking will be implemented include 13 sites: Goun-dong (South and North), Jongchon-dong, Areum-dong, Dodam-dong, Eojin-dong, Dajeong-dong, Saerom-dong, Hansol-dong (Hunmin and Jeongeum buildings), Daepyeong-dong, Boram-dong, and Sodam-dong.
Parking fees are free for up to 1 hour, and thereafter 200 KRW will be charged per 10 minutes. The daily maximum fee is 10,000 KRW.
The fee applies from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., and parking is free on weekends and public holidays.
However, vehicles carrying severely disabled persons, emergency vehicles, and vehicles of citizens attending district-hosted events, meetings, or training sessions will be exempt from fees.
Additionally, those with mild disabilities, national veterans, persons eligible for military service benefits, pregnant women, compact cars, and eco-friendly vehicles will receive a 50% discount on fees.
The city plans to use the revenue from paid parking to promote the development of the district areas and enhance resident convenience.
Lee Kyung-soo, head of the Community Participation Division, said, “We expect that resolving long-term parking through paid parking at Bokcom lots will allow complainants, disabled persons, and pregnant women to use the parking lots more conveniently,” adding, “We ask for citizens’ understanding and cooperation so that a mature parking culture can be established.”
