[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Seohyun] Volleyball player Choi Eunji has been embroiled in controversy for allegedly disparaging the appearance of a foreign teammate.

On the 14th, Choi Eunji posted a photo on her Instagram story from a birthday party celebrating Moma, a Cameroon-born player on her team.

Choi Eunji captioned the photo, saying, "'Why were you born if your face is ugly?' is the song (they were singing), but I like it lololol Cute Moma."

Netizens felt that Choi Eunji was belittling the foreign player's appearance, expressing discomfort with the post. Comments criticized her actions, saying things like "No sense," "Put yourself in their shoes," and "Hope you hear that song on your own birthday."

On the other hand, some netizens defended Choi Eunji, saying, "If you're close, you can joke like that," and "People are just overreacting to the song lyrics."

Choi Eunji and Moma Basoko are members of the GS Caltex Seoul Kixx volleyball team. Moma recently led Cameroon to victory with outstanding performance at the Africa Nations Championship as a national team player.
