About 30 Graduate Students Hold 'Tinet'
Press Conference Urging in Front of Gyeonggi Provincial Office
5 Organizations Relay for 4 Days up to the National Assembly
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] “The National Assembly must accept the special prosecution to uncover the truth behind the Daejang-dong Gate!”
The voices of citizens urging a special investigation into the ‘Daejang-dong development preferential treatment suspicion’ case are growing louder.
On the 15th at 11 a.m., Tinet, a youth study group consisting of about 30 graduate students and others, held a press conference in front of Gyeonggi Provincial Government Office to demand a special prosecution for the Daejang-dong Gate and began a four-day relay walking march. Six civic groups, including Fairness and Common Sense, Citizens’ Coalition for the Abolition of Gender Discriminatory Education, Youth Committee of the Barun Human Rights Women’s Union, Korea Social Integration Research Institute, Active Free Citizens, and the Movement Headquarters for Correcting Education, also jointly participated in this march.
At the press conference held before the walking march, Tinet stated, “Governor Lee Jae-myung of Gyeonggi Province is avoiding responsibility by calling the Daejang-dong Gate a People Power Party Gate and shifting the blame. We could not contain our boiling anger and came out to the streets.” They added, “A special prosecution must be conducted, and all those involved, regardless of party affiliation, must be duly punished for their crimes.” They also urged, “We hope the public will take more interest in the Daejang-dong Gate.”
At the open speech, Bae Jae-wook (20) said, “The ruling party, which once lit the candle of Korea’s democracy to eradicate deep-rooted evils, has become an unfair group abusing their vested interests.” He pointed out, “We cannot help but suspect that various officials abused the power of public institutions to secure development profits.”
Park Hye-rim (23) also said, “During the Choi Soon-sil political scandal, we thought we could regain the value of fairness we lost through the candlelight protests, but reality is different.” She added, “The hypocrisy of the government and politicians who only say they truly care for the people is now unbearable, which is why I stand here today.”
Immediately after the press conference, participants began the relay walking march from Daejang-dong to the National Assembly. On the 15th, the march will proceed from Gyeonggi Provincial Government Office to Seongnam Jeongja Station (Daejang-dong), on the 16th from Jeongja Station to the National Seoul Memorial Cemetery, and on the 17th from the National Seoul Memorial Cemetery to the Blue House. On the 18th, they will head from the Blue House to the final destination, Yeouido National Assembly, where they will read a statement demanding a special prosecution for the Daejang-dong Gate in front of the National Assembly and deliver it to the Speaker of the National Assembly.
Sunwoo Yun-ho, representative of Tinet, emphasized, “This issue is not a problem of either party alone, so a special prosecution is absolutely necessary.” He urged, “The Democratic Party should accept the special prosecution, and the People Power Party should stake their lives on it.” He also added, “The anger of the 2030 generation is not the end but the beginning of this march. If this incident is swept under the rug, young people across the country will take to the streets.”
