[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] “Car inspection? Now you don't need a car registration certificate anymore.”
Ulsan City announced on the 15th that, according to the revision of the 'Automobile Management Act,' from the 14th, there is no obligation to submit a car registration certificate during vehicle inspections.
Until now, car inspections required bringing the car registration certificate after obtaining vehicle insurance, and inspections had to be conducted at a vehicle inspection center or a first-class automobile repair shop, causing inconvenience.
With the related law revision, from now on, inspections can be conducted without presenting the car registration certificate, and the inspection suitability and validity period will be managed through a computerized system.
Regular vehicle inspections are regulations to prevent traffic accidents caused by vehicle defects and to protect life and property, so vehicle owners are required to undergo them.
Private vehicles must be inspected 4 years after new car registration, and thereafter once every 2 years; commercial, passenger, and cargo vehicles must be inspected once every year or every 6 months depending on the vehicle type and age.
If the inspection is delayed, a fine of 20,000 KRW is imposed for up to 30 days after the inspection expiration date, and an additional 10,000 KRW every 3 days thereafter, up to a maximum fine of 300,000 KRW.
