[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyun-joo] The story of a man in his 20s who died five days after receiving the first dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine has come to light.

On the 12th, a post titled "I lost my older brother who was healthier and brighter than anyone else in an instant" was uploaded on the Blue House National Petition Board. The petitioner, who identified themselves as the younger sibling of the deceased Mr. A (26, male), stated, "My brother lost consciousness and collapsed while exercising on the night of the fifth day after receiving the Pfizer vaccine," adding, "The hospital's notice advised refraining from intense exercise for about 2-3 days."

According to the petitioner, Mr. A was vaccinated on the 6th of last month and collapsed around 10:40 p.m. on the 10th while exercising at the Hangang Park near Gwangjin Bridge in Seoul. Afterwards, he experienced slight convulsions and body stiffness, and around 11:11 p.m., a passing citizen performed CPR. A few minutes later, rescue workers who had been called arrived and began emergency treatment.

At around 11:40 p.m., Mr. A was transported to a nearby hospital emergency room but was pronounced dead around 12:09 a.m., according to the petitioner.

The petitioner said, "After receiving the Pfizer vaccine on the 6th of last month, my brother only had muscle pain in his arm for about 2-3 days and no other symptoms," adding, "He had visited the hospital two months ago due to irregular heartbeat. Since the suspected tachycardia symptoms had improved, the hospital advised him to visit immediately if symptoms appeared within six months." Tachycardia refers to a condition where the heart rate is higher than normal.

They continued, "Even if symptoms reappear, the hospital said that over 90% of cases can be completely cured with procedures, and since it is not a common symptom in people in their 20s, they suggested monitoring the condition."

The petitioner urged, "Many people are struggling with unknown side effects after vaccination and are suddenly losing their loved ones. Please clearly inform us about precautions after vaccination, vaccine side effects, who can safely receive the vaccine, and who should carefully consider before getting vaccinated."

They added, "Although vaccination is not legally mandatory, incentive systems and penalties for those who have completed vaccination are already being applied in daily life and workplaces. For this reason, many people are getting vaccinated even if they do not want to," expressing concern.

They also appealed, "Even now, I worry and fear that side effects might occur to myself, my family, or acquaintances. I sincerely hope and pray that no more painful and desperate situations arise for the same reasons."
