[AKYUNG Poll] 'Next Presidential Candidate' Lee Jae-myung 28% Support... Yoon 25% · Hong 18%

[Asia Economy Reporter Kum Bo-ryeong] In the next presidential candidate support survey, Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party of Korea's presidential candidate (current Governor of Gyeonggi Province), slightly overtook former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl within the margin of error. Alongside this, Hong Joon-pyo, a member of the People Power Party, is closely trailing behind.

In response to the question, "Who do you think is most suitable as the next president?" Lee received the highest support at 28.2%, followed by former Prosecutor General Yoon at 25.3%, Hong at 18.3%, former Democratic Party leader Lee Nak-yeon at 12.3%, former lawmaker Yoo Seung-min at 3.1%, former Minister of Justice Chu Mi-ae at 2.2%, People’s Party leader Ahn Cheol-soo at 1.9%, and former Jeju Governor Won Hee-ryong at 1.7%, in that order.

Despite the Daejang-dong preferential treatment allegations, Lee’s support rose by 1.8 percentage points compared to the previous survey (4th week of September), while Yoon’s support dropped by 0.8 percentage points, widening the gap between the two candidates to 3.0 percentage points.

Among Democratic Party supporters, 60.6% backed Lee, more than twice the 27.0% support for former leader Lee Nak-yeon. Among People Power Party supporters, 47.7% supported Yoon, and 35.7% supported Hong. Among the 'non-affiliated' or undecided voters, Yoon led with 25.1% support.

By age group, Lee received strong support from those in their 40s (46.6%) and 50s (39.9%), while Yoon was most favored by those aged 60 and above (40.8%). Hong was the top choice among voters aged 18-29 (40.8%) and those in their 30s (27.9%).

This survey was conducted by Asia Economy through Win-G Korea Consulting from October 9 to 10, targeting voters aged 18 and above nationwide. A total of 1,023 people responded, with an overall response rate of 7.1%. The survey method was 100% mobile ARS using virtual phone numbers. The sample was extracted using weighted values by gender, age, and region based on the resident registration population as of the end of January 2021, provided by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety (cell weighting). The sampling error is ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
