[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yoo Deok-yeol, the mayor of Dongdaemun-gu, was confirmed positive for COVID-19 and was hospitalized on the 9th.


The mayor developed symptoms such as fever the day before and underwent a COVID-19 test, which confirmed his positive diagnosis on the morning of the 9th.


As a result, Mayor Yoo was immediately admitted to a hospital in Seoul on the same day and is currently receiving treatment.


It is also reported that officials within the district office who had contact with Mayor Yoo are undergoing COVID-19 testing.


The source of Mayor Yoo's COVID-19 infection has not been identified yet, and efforts are underway to trace the infection route.


Accordingly, from the 10th, Deputy Mayor Choi Hong-yeon will assume the role of mayor due to Mayor Yoo's hospitalization leave.


Mayor Yoo became the second district mayor in Seoul, among the 25 districts, to be confirmed positive for COVID-19, following Lee Chang-woo, the mayor of Dongjak-gu.
