[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Heung-soon] SK Hynix is jointly investing about 370 billion KRW with a Chinese company to establish an industrial complex in the Wuxi area of Jiangsu Province, where its DRAM factory is located.
According to a state-run media report posted on the Wuxi municipal government website on the 9th, the "Wuxi Korea-China Integrated Circuit Industrial Complex," jointly funded by SK Hynix and the Chinese company Xinpa Group, began construction on the 7th. The total project cost is 2 billion yuan (approximately 370.6 billion KRW).
SK Hynix did not disclose the exact amount of its investment share, but the funds will be used to build semiconductor infrastructure within the industrial complex.
The state-run media emphasized, "We will actively create a national-level pilot base for the localization of integrated circuit equipment," adding, "It will serve as a model case for building a world-class overseas joint industrial complex and promoting industrial restructuring using foreign capital." However, the authorities did not provide specific details about the facilities to be established in the industrial complex or the completion timeline.
Previously, SK Hynix has operated a DRAM semiconductor factory (C2F) in the Wuxi area since 2006 and invested 950 billion KRW in 2017 to establish an additional production line. The company is also participating in cooperative projects to strengthen collaboration with local businesses and communities and to expand the supply chain.
