[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Cho Hyung-joo] The AI Education Demonstration Promotion Committee of Honam University (Chair Professor Baek Ran) and the AI Big Data Research Institute research team announced on the 5th that they presented 10 papers over two days from September 30 to October 1 at the 2021 Engineering Education Conference and General Assembly.

Hosted by the Korean Society for Engineering Education (President Moon Il) under the theme "Education Leading the New Normal Society," Honam University showcased the results of AI education demonstration and research activities obtained after six months of research starting from the first semester of this year, through collaboration between the 4th Industrial Revolution Innovation Leading University Project Group (Director Jeong Dae-won) Teaching Method Research Association and the AI Education Demonstration Promotion Committee.

At this conference, Honam University presented five papers on the definition and standardizable AI education methods for each college: College of Humanities and Social Sciences (Professor Jang Eun-young, Department of Counseling Psychology), Health Sciences (Professor Im Kyung-yeol, Department of Speech Therapy), College of Arts and Physical Education (Professor Kim Seo-young, Department of Cartoon Animation), AI Liberal Arts College (Professor Kang Hyun-joo), and AI Convergence College (Professor Yoo Yong-min, Department of Future Automotive Engineering).

Additionally, papers on AI curriculum development and analysis (Professor Lee Eun-kyung, Future Automotive), strategies for strengthening teaching competencies (Director Jang Yoon-kyung, Center for Teaching and Learning Development), metaverse-based teaching method strategies (Professor Lee Sung-ah, Center for Teaching and Learning Development), system development research for implementing AI tutors, and research plans to enhance the quality of AI education (Director Baek Ran, AI Big Data Research Institute) were also introduced.

Notably, the presentations on AI education demonstration and research activities by the Honam University research team accounted for more than 80% of AI Education Sessions 1 and 2, demonstrating the strength of the nation’s only ‘AI Specialized University.’

Professor Baek Ran stated, “It was very meaningful to introduce interim results that reset the vision of educational philosophy and analysis for liberal arts, humanities and social sciences, health, arts, physical education, and non-IT fields. I would like to thank the research team who devoted much effort over six months to redefine and standardize the concept of AI education by major.” She added, “Some of the presentation contents will also be presented at an invited lecture in December by the Korean Federation of Women’s Science and Technology Associations (KOWSF), which consists of 40 member organizations and about 60,000 members.”
