[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] The Ministry of Unification announced that on the second day of the restoration of the inter-Korean communication liaison line on the 5th, normal communication was conducted with the North Korean side.
On that day, at 9 a.m., the inter-Korean joint liaison office conducted the initial call normally.
The Ministry of National Defense also stated that the North responded to calls on the international common maritime network (hotline) between South Korean vessels, following the military communication lines in the East and West Sea areas.
With the normal operation of the military communication lines in the East and West Sea areas as well as the hotline between vessels, the inter-Korean military communication channels have been fully restored.
Since the morning of the previous day, North Korea has been responding to South Korea's call attempts through the inter-Korean joint liaison office and military communication lines.
However, on the previous day, inter-Korean calls via the international common maritime network did not take place.
North Korea had abruptly restored the communication liaison line on July 27 after 13 months, but unilaterally cut off the communication liaison line again on August 10 in protest against the start of the South Korea-U.S. joint military exercises.
Subsequently, following President Moon Jae-in's proposal for a declaration to end the war last month, Kim Jong-un, General Secretary of the Workers' Party, publicly promised the restoration of the communication liaison line during his policy speech at the Supreme People's Assembly, and the communication liaison line was restored again yesterday after 55 days.
