[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Seul-gi] A man accused of assaulting police officers who requested a breathalyzer test for his wife was sentenced to a fine.

The Criminal Division 9 of the Uijeongbu District Court in Gyeonggi Province (Judge Lee Jae-wook) announced on the 5th that Mr. A, who was indicted for obstruction of official duties, was sentenced to a fine of 5 million won.

The court stated, "The defendant obstructed the lawful execution of official duties by the police officers, and the circumstances and nature of the crime are not favorable," but also explained the sentencing reason by considering "the defendant's admission of the crime and the fact that it appears to have been somewhat impulsive."

Earlier, Mr. A was brought to trial on charges of assaulting two police officers who requested a breathalyzer test for his wife, Ms. B, on the road in front of an apartment complex in Uijeongbu City, Gyeonggi Province, around 9:50 p.m. on February 28.

At that time, Corporal C and Officer D responded to a 112 report stating "the driver of a blue Audi vehicle is suspected of drunk driving," arrived at the scene, and requested a breathalyzer test from the driver, Ms. B.

Mr. A is accused of pushing Corporal C's chest four times and Officer D's chest twice while saying, "Who reported this? A test? Damn it." The scene of Mr. A's violent behavior was recorded by the police officers' body cameras.
