Under the Theme 'Climate Change, Megacity, and Water,' Water-Related Events Gathered in One Place
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 5th that it will hold ‘Water Seoul 2021,’ a comprehensive water-related event in Seoul, at Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) for three days from the 7th to the 9th.
The main programs include three events?an international conference, Water Seoul talk concert, and water industry job fair?held both online and offline, sharing water environment policies with global cities and citizens and supporting youth employment in the water industry. These will be live-streamed on YouTube.
The theme of this year’s event is ‘Cities for Climate Resilience.’ The construction and development of cities have always been closely linked with water. Most of the world’s megacities have provided citizens with a healthy water environment and pleasant recreational spaces based on abundant water resources and systematic water supply and sewage systems.
At the ‘International Conference,’ urban water issues common to large cities will be categorized into three areas: water circulation, water safety, and water culture. Advanced cases from overseas cities will be explored, and technical solutions will be discussed.
The ‘Water Seoul Talk Concert’ will create a space for Seoul citizens and the city government to build consensus on water policies, featuring humanities lectures by writer Shim Yong-hwan and explorer Moon Kyung-soo.
Additionally, considering the desire of young people who want direct job counseling and the need to revitalize the labor market affected by COVID-19, Seoul will hold a ‘Water Industry Job Fair’ for two days from the 7th to the 8th at the Dongdaemun Design Plaza Eoullim Square. Taking into account concerns about the resurgence of COVID-19, an online recruitment hall will also operate until the 31st.
Han Yoo-seok, Director of the Water Circulation Safety Bureau of Seoul, said, “We hope that Water Seoul 2021 will be a meaningful event where the world and citizens unite to propose solutions to various urban water problems,” adding, “We also hope the job fair will provide an opportunity for young job seekers to find employment during these difficult times.”
