[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] On Children's Day, a heartless father in his 60s who abruptly stopped a running bicycle, causing his 7-year-old daughter to hit a tree because she wouldn't listen, was sentenced to prison with a suspended sentence. The victimized daughter said she wanted to live with her father.

The Daegu District Court, Criminal Division 6 (Judge Kim Jae-ho), announced on the 4th that Mr. A, who was tried on charges of violating the Child Welfare Act (child abuse), was sentenced to 8 months in prison with a 2-year suspension.

Additionally, he was placed under probation, ordered to complete 80 hours of child abuse treatment lectures, and banned from employment in child-related institutions for 3 years.

According to the court, Mr. A was indicted for abruptly stopping a bicycle while carrying Ms. B in front on May 5th around 4 p.m. in front of a public restroom in Dong-gu, Daegu, causing her to collide with a tree.

Mr. A reportedly scolded his daughter, saying, "If you make noise, I'll crash you into a tree," and abruptly stopped the running bicycle.

He also threatened to lift Ms. B and throw her to the ground, saying, "You have to kill a brat who doesn't listen," and slapped her twice, according to the investigation.

The court stated, "Although he was in a position to protect the victim, his child, he committed physical and emotional abuse that significantly exceeded disciplinary measures. However, considering that the crime appears to have been somewhat impulsive, the victim expressed a desire to live with the defendant during the investigation, and the defendant is reflecting on his wrongful behavior, these factors were comprehensively taken into account."
