Selection of Quarantine Management Personnel Including Unemployed in Tourism Industry in Mapo-gu, Quarantine Inspections at Hongdaeipgu and Other Areas

Joint Civil-Government-Police Nighttime Hygiene Inspection in Hongdae from September 30 to October 31, with Guidance on Mask Wearing and Social Distancing in Walking and Festival Streets

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Mapo-gu (Mayor Yudonggyun) is promoting the ‘Tourist Site Quarantine and Capacity Improvement Support Project’ to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the Hongdae area, which attracts many tourists, and to create a safe tourism environment.

Due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic since last year, travel anxiety has increased, causing difficulties for the local tourism industry and related workers.

Accordingly, from the second half of this year, the district will select four people affected by COVID-19, including tourism industry employees on leave or unemployed and travel agency representatives facing management crises, as quarantine management personnel to strengthen quarantine at tourist sites and provide public jobs to workers in the depressed tourism industry.

The quarantine management personnel will conduct quarantine activities from 5:30 PM to 9:30 PM at Hongdae Walking Street (around 348-40 Seogyo-dong) and Festival Street (around 365-28 Seogyo-dong), including ▲wearing masks ▲maintaining a distance of more than 2 meters ▲suppressing the 3Cs (closed spaces, crowded places, close-contact settings).

A district official said, “Through the activities of quarantine management personnel in the Hongdae area, we expect to alleviate tourists’ travel anxiety caused by COVID-19 and revitalize the tourism economy.”

In addition, following reports that many foreigners without masks appear after 10 PM when quarantine management personnel are not active, the district has been conducting a ‘Nighttime Special Quarantine Inspection’ centered around the Hongdae area from the 30th of last month to the 31st of this month for one month.

From Thursday to Sunday every week, from 9:30 PM for one hour, a joint quarantine campaign and enforcement of quarantine rule violations will be conducted by a combined team of civilian, government, and police personnel, with about 130 people deployed daily, totaling approximately 2,600 people.

Especially from 10 PM to 4 AM, a joint inspection team will be formed with the Hongik Police Substation and two squads to focus on enforcing quarantine rules and basic order violations.

Yudonggyun, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “We hope that the deployment of quarantine management personnel will create a tourism environment where people can enjoy travel with peace of mind,” and added, “We will actively seek ways to strengthen quarantine while revitalizing the tourism economy.”
