COVID-19 Confirmed Cases at 6 PM: 1,296 Total, 819 in the Capital Region

[Asia Economy Reporter Ki-min Lee] The number of new COVID-19 cases nationwide was recorded at 1,296 as of 6 p.m. on the 2nd.

This is 358 fewer than the 1,654 cases recorded at the same time the previous day, and 684 fewer than the 1,980 cases recorded at 6 p.m. on September 25, one week ago.

On this day, 819 cases (63.2%) were reported in the Seoul metropolitan area, and 477 cases (36.8%) in non-metropolitan areas.

By city and province, the numbers are: Gyeonggi 447, Seoul 256, Incheon 116, Gyeongbuk 97, Gyeongnam 63, Daegu 56, Chungbuk 44, Chungnam 42, Gangwon 39, Busan 33, Daejeon 32, Gwangju 21, Jeonbuk 19, Jeonnam 16, Ulsan 10, and Jeju 5.

Among the 17 cities and provinces nationwide, Sejong has yet to report any confirmed cases.

Since there is still time left until midnight when the tally closes, the number of new confirmed cases announced at midnight on the 3rd is expected to exceed 1,800.

The previous day, 594 additional cases were confirmed after 6 p.m., bringing the total to 2,248.

The fourth wave, which began in July, continues to spread. The daily number of confirmed cases has remained in the four digits for 88 consecutive days since recording 1,211 on July 7.

Looking at major infection cases, in the Seoul metropolitan area, a total of 37 people were confirmed positive in connection with an academy in Yangcheon-gu, Seoul (third case), and 35 people tested positive at a psychiatric hospital in Osan-si, Gyeonggi.

In Guri-si, Gyeonggi, 23 people were confirmed in relation to a wholesale market, and 19 people were confirmed in connection with a sauna.

In non-metropolitan areas, 10 workers at a construction site in Cheongju-si, Chungbuk, tested positive, and 12 confirmed cases were reported in relation to a restaurant in Seo-gu, Daegu (third case).
