Commendation Plaques Awarded to 15 Model Elderly Contributors to Senior Welfare
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Jinju City, Gyeongnam Province, held the 25th Senior Citizens' Day ceremony on the morning of the 1st at the City Hall Citizen Hall, attended by Jinju Mayor Jo Gyu-il, City Council Chairman Lee Sang-young, Jinju Senior Citizens Association President Kang Go-hong, award recipients, and about 40 related personnel to commemorate Senior Citizens' Day and present awards to meritorious individuals.
The city has held Senior Citizens' Day commemorative events annually, but this year, due to the COVID-19 situation, the event was simplified as much as possible for the health and safety of the elderly, conducting only the ceremony and award presentation at the Citizen Hall.
On this day, a total of 15 individuals, including exemplary seniors and contributors to senior welfare, were honored with Senior Citizens' Day commendations.
Mayor Jo said in his greeting, "It is regrettable that the Senior Citizens' Day commemorative event was greatly reduced due to COVID-19," and added, "Our city will actively promote a variety of welfare projects to enhance the welfare of the elderly so that they can spend a healthier and more comfortable old age."
Meanwhile, the city is implementing various welfare policies to enhance the rights and welfare of the elderly, including strengthening visiting senior care functions, expanding support for communal living homes, constructing a comprehensive senior center, expanding senior job projects, and encouraging leisure activities for seniors.
