Guri-si Achieves 86% of Public Sector Job Target Amid Rising Employment Rate in First Half of the Year Guri City Hall

[Asia Economy Reporter La Young-cheol] The employment rate in Guri-si, Gyeonggi Province, in the first half of this year increased by 3.8% compared to the same period last year, exceeding the goal set during the 7th local government term, and this year’s public sector job target was also achieved at 86%.

According to Guri-si on the 29th, in the employment indicators for April of the first half of 2021 announced by Statistics Korea last month, the number of employed people in Guri-si increased by 5,600 compared to the same period last year, and the employment rate rose by 3.8%. This figure exceeds the 7th local government term’s city job target employment rate of 63.8% by 1.2%.

The city analyzed that this achievement of the target was due to the employment rate increasing to 65% in the first half, showing a recovery trend.

Additionally, through continuous job policies since the launch of the 7th local government term, 13,677 people applied for 222 public sector job support projects this year, surpassing the initial target of 15,855 people and achieving 86.3% of this year’s goal.

In public jobs for vulnerable groups, 8,049 jobs were created; in vocational education, 967; in employment services, 1,641; in employment incentives, 2,329; and in startup support, 691.

Through job support projects, Guri-si Job Center, and the Women’s New Work Center’s customized employment support services for job seekers, about 1,100 people found employment in the first half of the year.

The city plans to focus support on vulnerable employment groups such as youth and women, proactively implement employment-related policies including discovering job seekers through big data analysis, employment support education, and small capital startup support.

Mayor Ahn Seung-nam stated, "Although the employment market and Guri-si’s local economy difficulties continue in 2021, we will do our best to proactively prepare for the upcoming 'With Corona' era to create stable local jobs and revitalize the local economy and consumption."
