Lee Jae-myung "Gwak Sang-do's son, who worked 6 years, received 5 billion won in severance pay? ... A social evil and public enemy" lamented

[Asia Economy=Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Lee Jae-myung, governor of Gyeonggi Province and a presidential primary candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea, condemned the 5 billion won retirement pay of lawmaker Kwak Sang-do's (independent) son as "a social evil" and "a public enemy," expressing that his heart breaks at the sighs of young people and the self-disgust of parents.

On the 29th, Lee posted on Facebook an article titled "Public Enemy," saying, "'A six-year deputy worker receiving 5 billion won in retirement pay,' '5 billion won in industrial accident consolation money for dizziness and tinnitus'?these sounds deepen the sighs of young people in South Korea," adding, "(Their sighs) are probably not blaming their parents, but parents who are unable to introduce such good jobs also feel crushed in their hearts."

He continued, "An unheard-of enormous retirement pay (5 billion won for six years of work) and industrial accident consolation money were received, but during the period when his health was said to have deteriorated, there are reports that (Lawmaker Kwak's son) was actively participating in early soccer club activities."

He also said, "(Kwak's side) explanations are not convincing and rather raise questions," adding, "We (including myself and the people of South Korea) cannot understand such explanations, and if they claim that it is so, it feels like they consider the people as dogs or pigs, like a line from some movie, which makes me feel self-disgust."

Lee also introduced the painful reality of young people of the same age as Kwak's son.

He said, "It is said that the MZ generation is flocking to delivery work because the income is higher compared to the jobs their peers do," adding, "However, among those delivery workers, 21 have died from overwork from last year until June 3 of this year."

He then questioned, "Do people who worked to death like that appear in the eyes of lawmaker Kwak? Do the peers who are dying while working like this appear in the eyes of Kwak's son?" and asked, "How can they boldly say that the 5 billion won is consolation money for dizziness and tinnitus, using the excuse of industrial accident compensation that was never even applied for in the face of such deaths?"

Lee said, "Online comments like 'How much did that twenty-year-old who died working on the screen door at Guui Station receive? What about the person who fell while working in the blast furnace? How and where do you have to get injured to receive 5 billion won in industrial accident compensation?' touch my heart," strongly criticizing, "The seriousness of this incident lies in the fact that it has made the lives of sincere people and the motivation of young people to live cynical."

He added, "It mercilessly kicked down the hard-earned towers of ordinary people who were building hope, so this incident is a social evil and a public enemy," promising, "I will definitely eliminate the real estate corrupt forces that harm fairness by earning unearned income among themselves, and I will definitely introduce a system to return development profits to the people."
