Significantly Expanded Selection Scale and Financial Support for Award Winners
Samsung C&T, Samsung Engineering, and Samsung Heavy Industries, the three EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) companies, announced on the 29th that they will hold the '2021 Smart & Green Tomorrow Contech Contest' to promote the development of EPC convergence technologies through win-win cooperation with domestic industry, academia, and research institutes.
This contest aims to recruit innovative technologies that enhance productivity in EPC processes by applying 4th industrial revolution technologies such as automation and digitalization applicable to EPC projects. It is the first contest jointly hosted by Samsung C&T, Samsung Engineering, and Samsung Heavy Industries.
The contest targets small and medium-sized enterprises, startups, universities, and research institutes that have technological ideas but lack funding and research infrastructure. By jointly investing and developing through the collaboration of the three Samsung EPC companies, the contest seeks to promote co-growth based on mutual cooperation, as well as to foster the ecosystem development of EPC convergence technologies and achieve business synergy effects.
One notable feature is the significant expansion in the scale of awards and support, enabling more diverse and practical assistance. For example, while most funding support is usually capped at a certain limit, this contest allows proportional support for the total research and development amount through joint investment by the three Samsung EPC companies, enabling greater financial support.
The contest is divided into two categories: Product and Detailed Technology. The Product category invites ideas related to ▲ Architecture and Civil Engineering (buildings, housing, roads, bridges, etc.) ▲ Plant (industrial, environmental, chemical, power, marine, etc.) ▲ Shipbuilding. The Detailed Technology category accepts applications in ▲ Data Technologies (AI, Big Data, AR/VR, BIM, etc.) ▲ Smart Construction Technologies (modules, precast concrete, robotics, etc.) ▲ Eco-friendly Element Technologies (carbon reduction, waste recycling, etc.).
Applications for the contest are accepted from today until the 29th of next month. By November 12, technical departments and expert judges will conduct the first round of evaluation (document review) on the technological feasibility and notify the results. For ideas that pass, a second round of evaluation (presentation review) will be conducted to assess the necessity of technology acquisition and the appropriateness of development costs. The final results will be announced on December 17.
A Samsung C&T representative said, "We hope this contest will open a new chapter in the development of EPC convergence technologies such as data technology, eco-friendliness, and energy," adding, "We look forward to achieving true co-growth based on mutual cooperation through active participation."
