28 New COVID-19 Cases Including Breakthrough Infections at University Hospital in Gwangju

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Cho Hyung-joo] In the Gwangju area, the spread of COVID-19 continues, centered around the effects of the holiday season, foreigners, and infections within hospitals.


According to Gwangju Metropolitan City on the 29th, 28 people were confirmed positive in one day, classified as cases 4930 to 4957.


By infection route, 7 cases were related to foreigner testing in Gwangsan-gu, 4 cases related to other cities and provinces such as Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Jeonnam, 1 case related to manufacturing in Gwangsan-gu, 7 cases related to previously confirmed patients, and 9 cases are under investigation for unknown infection routes.


Among these, 3 cases related to foreigner testing in Gwangsan-gu were confirmed positive during self-quarantine, and their nationalities are Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and Vietnam, all foreigners.


Cases related to other cities and provinces mainly involved infections among acquaintances and family members, and case 4936 is a Kazakhstani who was infected while visiting Siheung.


Among 5 previously confirmed patients, 3 were confirmed positive after a family gathering in Hampyeong, Jeonnam, through family transmission, and case 4876 was infected after overlapping movements with a confirmed patient at a pub in Dong-gu.


At a university hospital in Gwangju, one nursing assistant and two patients were confirmed positive after contact with a caregiver in the same ward. All of them are known to have completed vaccination, identified as breakthrough infection cases.
