LG Electronics Material Analysis Accredited Lab Obtains Certification as Testing Laboratory An LG Electronics researcher is evaluating antifungal performance using a microscope at the certified material analysis lab.


[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyewon] LG Electronics' Material Analysis Accredited Lab under the Quality Management Center announced on the 29th that it has recently been designated as a certified testing laboratory in the microbiology field by the global testing and certification organization TUV Rheinland.


This certification signifies that LG Electronics has secured expertise and credibility to analyze and evaluate performance such as antibacterial and antifungal properties.


As the number of customers pursuing a healthy life increases, LG Electronics recruited specialized personnel, including those with doctoral degrees related to microbiology, earlier this year to preemptively verify hygiene quality, and in June, established a microbiology lab under the Material Analysis Accredited Lab.


With this certification, LG Electronics can independently conduct ▲ antibacterial performance evaluation of plastics and other materials (ISO 22196) ▲ antifungal performance evaluation of plastics and other synthetic resins (ASTM G21-15). Various products with antibacterial materials applied, such as air conditioners, refrigerators, and home beauty devices, are subject to evaluation.

The Material Analysis Accredited Lab also received certification from TUV Rheinland to analyze substances that cause inflammation upon skin contact. LG Electronics is the first domestic company to obtain this qualification.


In 2006, the Material Analysis Accredited Lab was the first domestic company to be designated by TUV Rheinland as a certified testing laboratory capable of analyzing the six hazardous substances under RoHS, including lead and mercury. Additionally, in 2017, the lab qualified as a testing laboratory capable of detecting and analyzing harmful sterilizing substances to the human body. LG Electronics was also the first domestic company designated by TUV Rheinland as a certified testing laboratory in the sterilizing substances field.


TUV Rheinland grants laboratory qualifications after strictly evaluating testing environments and capabilities. Kim Junho, Vice President and Head of LG Electronics Quality Management Center, emphasized, "With this certification, LG Electronics can independently evaluate product performances such as antibacterial and antifungal properties," adding, "We will continue to strive so that customers can trust and use LG Electronics products that prioritize health and hygiene."
