[Asia Economy Reporter Buaeri] The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has expressed concern over China's expansion of its nuclear weapons. NATO also stated that China should participate in arms control discussions.
According to AFP, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg conveyed this during a video call on the 27th (local time) with Wang Yi, China's State Councilor and Foreign Minister.
In a statement, NATO said that Secretary General Stoltenberg expressed concerns about China's coercive policies, nuclear weapons expansion, and lack of transparency in military modernization.
Regarding this, Hua Chunying, spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said at a regular briefing on the 28th, "We express serious concern and opposition to NATO's continuous exaggeration of the so-called Chinese nuclear threat."
Spokesperson Hua added, "If a country has no intention to threaten or undermine China's sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity, it would not feel threatened by China's defense capabilities."
He said that what the international community should truly be concerned about is NATO's nuclear sharing policy.
NATO's nuclear sharing refers to a system in which the United States jointly operates tactical nuclear weapons with NATO member countries that do not possess nuclear weapons.
