[Asia Economy Reporter Na Ye-eun] A sexual harassment message sent from a student to an elementary school teacher has been made public, sparking outrage among netizens.
On the 27th, an online community for elementary school teachers posted a message titled "I was sexually harassed by a 6th-grade student in my class."
A, who identified herself as an elementary school teacher with two months of service, said, "I was sexually harassed by a 6th-grade student in my class. I am female and the student is male," attaching a photo of the message she received from the student.
In the image attached by A, the student sent a message containing explicit sexual harassment remarks, saying, "Phew, that was tough. Teacher, can I put XX in your XX?"
A said, "When I called the student to ask, he said he sent it by mistake while chatting with a friend on KakaoTalk."
Netizens who saw the post reacted with anger, saying things like, "This should be recorded in the student's school record," "At 6th grade, they should know this is wrong; some form of punishment seems necessary," "It's tough for a new teacher to go through this already," and "Saying it was a mistake sounds like an excuse."
Meanwhile, outrage also arose when it became known that the student would not face criminal punishment because he is a chokbeopsonyeon (juvenile offender under the age of criminal responsibility). A chokbeopsonyeon refers to a minor aged 10 or older but under 14 who commits an act punishable by law but is exempt from criminal responsibility due to lack of criminal capacity.
