50s Man Arrested for Breaking into Apartment with Open Door, Robbing Elderly, and Attempting Sexual Assault

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] A man in his 50s who broke into houses with open doors while roaming apartment complexes, committing theft and violence against elderly people, and even attempting sexual assault, was arrested by the police on charges of special rape, trespassing, and theft.

According to the Masan Eastern Police Station in Gyeongnam on the 28th, Mr. A entered a house with an open front door in an apartment in Naeseo-eup, Masanhwoin-gu, Changwon City, where he lives, at around 3:35 p.m. on the 27th, assaulted Ms. B (female, in her 80s), and stole 40,000 won in cash before fleeing.

Then, around 5 p.m., he broke into two other houses in the same apartment complex, threatened Ms. C (female, in her 80s) and Ms. D (female, in her 70s) with a weapon, assaulted them, and attempted sexual assault, but fled after the victims resisted.

The police responded at around 3:57 p.m. following a report by Mr. A, identified the suspect through CCTV within the apartment complex, and while searching, located him based on a report from Ms. B’s family. Mr. A was apprehended around 5:40 p.m. in a park near the apartment complex.

Mr. A has no prior record related to sexual violence and is currently known to be denying some of the charges.

The police have applied for an arrest warrant for Mr. A and are investigating the exact circumstances of the case, including the motive and any additional crimes. They also plan to request a psychiatric evaluation.
