"Return of Development Profits Should Be Discussed at the National Assembly Level"
[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] Kim Eun-hye, a member of the People Power Party, asserted on the 28th that the Daejang-dong scandal must be clarified through a special investigation.
In a free speech at the National Assembly plenary session that day, Rep. Kim said, "It is said to be a public interest recovery project that will remain in administrative history, but looking at the contract, a cap was placed on the profits of Seongnam Urban Development Corporation, guaranteeing unlimited profits to the private sector," and pointed out, "The 'public owner' set the banquet, but the 'guest private sector' swept it all away."
She criticized, "The Democratic Party of Korea should regard this as the greatest achievement since Dangun and a role model," and asked, "If it is something to be promoted like that, why do you block witness appearances and why do Gyeonggi Province and Seongnam City completely refuse to provide materials?"
Rep. Kim demanded, "Who benefited from the thousands of billions in special favors in this outrageous speculation scheme? I will continue to pursue the 5 billion KRW retirement bonus of Rep. Kwak Sang-do's son. Democratic Party colleagues should ask Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung."
She stated, "No matter how many supporting actors appear, the permit authority who designed this contract is Governor Lee," and insisted, "The main figure of Daejang-dong must be identified through a special investigation."
She emphasized, "Public development profits must be returned to the public," and added, "When developing through public-private partnership, there should be a limit on the profits that private investors can take, and the public should be responsible for operation and management so that the rights that should return to the people are not unjustly deprived repeatedly." Furthermore, she warned, "I request Seongnam's Deul and Hwacheon Daeyu to actively cooperate with the investigation and to start publicizing the return of profits to residents from now on."
