[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bo-kyung] Coupang is investing 200 billion KRW to build the largest advanced logistics center in the Honam region.
Coupang announced on the 28th that it held a groundbreaking ceremony for the logistics center (Gwangju FC) at the Pyeongdong 3rd Industrial Complex in Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju. The ceremony was attended by Lee Yong-seop, Mayor of Gwangju, and Park Dae-jun, Head of Coupang's New Business Division.
Scheduled for completion in the first half of 2023, Gwangju FC will be approximately 170,000㎡ (total floor area), making it the largest logistics center in the Honam area.
Coupang plans to invest more than 200 billion KRW in Gwangju FC. It will introduce advanced logistics equipment, including its self-developed logistics software and artificial intelligence (AI) systems, to optimize product management and workflow. This is expected to significantly improve work efficiency and greatly reduce employees' workload.
The establishment of Gwangju FC is also expected to contribute to local job creation. The anticipated number of new jobs created by the logistics center is over 2,000 (including direct and indirect employment), making it the largest investment attracted by Gwangju City in the past 20 years.
Park said, "Gwangju FC will be the first advanced logistics center in the Honam region capable of nationwide rocket delivery. It will serve as a foundation for mutual growth with the local community through revitalizing the regional economy, creating quality jobs, and continuously supporting excellent small business owners in the Honam area."
Mayor Lee said, "I hope this will greatly contribute to the development of the local economy by realizing the values of stable working environments, sustainable employment, and co-growth with small and medium-sized enterprises and small business owners."
