Suncheon-si Hosts the '2021 Suncheon-si eSports Festival'

Leap to a Key City of the 4th Industrial Revolution with '2021 NEXPO in Suncheon' Held Simultaneously
Offering Various Attractions and Experiences Including eSports Tournaments and Academies

[Suncheon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Heo Seok) announced on the 28th that it will hold the ‘2021 Suncheon eSports Festival’ from the 16th to the 20th of next month at the 4th Industrial Revolution Experience Cluster next to Suncheonman Job World.

This event, held in conjunction with the official opening day of the 4th Industrial Revolution Expo ‘2021 NEXPO in Suncheon’ and ‘Suncheonman Job World,’ is not just a simple gaming tournament. It aims to establish eSports as a cultural content by expanding the range of eSports enthusiasts, branding Suncheon as an eSports city, and creating an opportunity for the development of the eSports industry.

The main programs consist of various fields including eSports tournaments that anyone, not only gamers but also citizens, can easily enjoy and participate in, citizen participation programs, an eSports academy, and various events.

The nationwide amateur eSports tournament, held for the second time following 2019, is attracting the attention of many eSports enthusiasts across the country.

Professional casters and commentators such as caster Park Tae-min and commentator Han Sang-yong will provide lively and thrilling live coverage of the tournament. Outstanding performers will receive awards and prize money from the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education, and the Governor of Jeonnam Province.

In addition, second-team players from Fredit Brion will be invited to hold an event match with the nationwide amateur tournament winners, and a showdown will be held by inviting elite university gaming teams.

A small-scale permanent tournament will be held for those not participating in the main competition, and an eSports game academy will be conducted by professional instructors to improve awareness of eSports.

Moreover, various experience booths such as a nostalgic arcade that parents and children can enjoy together and a futuristic VR game zone will be operated. Game equipment and game goods of professional gamers will be exhibited to provide diverse attractions for visitors and tournament participants.

A city official stated, “Through this event, we expect to lay the foundation for Suncheon City as a representative city of the eSports industry and to solidify its brand as an important city of the 4th Industrial Revolution by holding it simultaneously with ‘2021 NEXPO in Suncheon.’ We will do our best to ensure a successful event.”
