[Asia Economy Honam News Bureau, reporter Park Jinhyung] The Nam-gu district of Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Kim Byungnae) is receiving a strong response to its "Mind Care Hello Kit" program, which is being provided to residents experiencing psychological difficulties due to COVID-19 self-quarantine.
According to the Nam-gu Mental Health Welfare Center on September 28, the Mind Care Hello Kit is intended to soothe the emotional fatigue caused by COVID-19 and has been distributed to residents in self-quarantine within the district since March.
As of this date, a total of 679 kits have been distributed.
The reason for the positive response to the Mind Care Hello Kit program is that it helps prevent or minimize psychological difficulties through activities such as Hwamunseok (traditional Korean mat) making, writing therapeutic letters for mental well-being, providing information on psychological protection against COVID-19, and self-assessment tools that allow individuals to check their own mental health status.
According to reviews posted on the Nam-gu Mental Health Welfare Center website, Hwamunseok making, which allows families in self-quarantine to learn about traditional Korean crafts as an indoor activity, is especially popular among parents and children quarantining together.
Parents and children can create unique mini mats using colorful rushes, which not only improves children's concentration but also strengthens family bonds.
The "Letter to Myself" therapeutic writing book, consisting of 175 pages, has generated a significant response among adult self-quarantiners.
This book is designed to provide an opportunity for self-reflection during the two-week self-quarantine period. It contains 20 questions for self-discovery, and readers are encouraged to write their personal thoughts on each page.
Users have reported that the kit has been very helpful for emotional healing and self-rediscovery.
Anyone who receives an application guidance text message sent by the Nam-gu Mental Health Welfare Center to self-quarantined residents in the district is eligible to use the Mind Care Hello Kit, and only one kit is delivered per household.
