[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-yoon] The prosecution has requested a prison sentence for Kim Hyung-in, a former SBS public comedian, who was indicted on charges of operating an illegal gambling den.

On the 27th, at the first trial sentencing hearing presided over by Judge Bang Seong-gyu of the Seoul Southern District Court Criminal Division 4, the prosecution asked the court to sentence Kim to one year in prison and a fine of 1 million won. Fellow comedian Choi Jae-wook, who was also indicted, was also sentenced to one year in prison.

They were indicted on charges of creating an illegal gambling den in an officetel in Gangseo-gu, Seoul, between late January and late February 2018, and collecting commissions. Kim is also accused of directly participating in gambling.

During the trial, Kim admitted to the gambling charges but denied the charge of operating a gambling den. At the hearing, Kim appealed, saying, "I sincerely apologize for the gambling part" and "I will reflect and live diligently."

The sentencing hearing for them is scheduled to be held on November 3.
