[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Joo-hee] Jo Eun-san, a commentator known for the Blue House public petition "Seven Proposals for the New Year" criticizing the Moon Jae-in administration, criticized Gwak Sang-do, a member of the People Power Party who left the party amid controversy over his son's "5 billion KRW retirement bonus from Hwacheon Daeyu."

On the 26th, Jo Eun-san posted a blog titled "LH (Korea Land and Housing Corporation) was the gentleman" stating, "Compared to the Daejang-dong gate, LH employees who bought land with their own money and planted a few trees seem like gentlemen. Among the 400 billion KRW labyrinth, there was also a 5 billion KRW retirement bonus."

Hwacheon Daeyu Asset Management (Hwacheon Daeyu), suspected of preferential treatment in the Daejang-dong development project in Bundang-gu, Seongnam-si, Gyeonggi Province, is known to have earned more than 400 billion KRW from dividends and sales profits of the Daejang district development project. It was also confirmed that Gwak’s son received 5 billion KRW as retirement pay after working at Hwacheon Daeyu for six years.

Targeting Gwak, Jo Eun-san pointed out, "Unless his brain has evaporated, which citizen can reasonably accept a 5 billion KRW retirement bonus for a 32-year-old assistant manager?" He added, "He could not have been unaware of his son’s receipt of the 5 billion KRW retirement bonus, who is neither a close aide nor acquaintance, and if he knew, he would not have just let it go logically."

He continued, "Why didn’t he step forward to raise the issue first? Also, while criticizing the president’s son’s receipt of support funds so harshly, why was he so lenient toward his own son?" Gwak had previously raised various suspicions, including preferential treatment in art support funds for Moon Joon-yong, son of President Moon Jae-in.

Jo Eun-san then targeted Lee Jae-myung, governor of Gyeonggi Province and former mayor of Seongnam City during the Daejang-dong project, saying, "With the state intervening in the mayor’s office, a more rotten stench is spreading. Is this Lee Jae-myung’s style of eradicating vested interests and real estate reform?" He criticized, "Now the Daejang-dong gate is no longer a matter of party disputes but is spreading as a subject of national anger."

He concluded, "If this is the case, let’s stop the nonsense about public-private joint development, public recovery, and citizens’ interests, and just let the private sector handle land compensation and sales on its own. Pure private interests might be better than corrupt power disguised as public good."
