[Asia Economy Reporter Kum Bo-ryeong] The presidential candidates of the People Power Party engaged in a heated debate over the pardon of former President Park Geun-hye.
At 9 p.m. on the 26th, during the third debate of the People Power Party presidential primary held on Channel A, former lawmaker Yoo Seung-min questioned former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl, saying, "When you were in the prosecution, you sought a total of 45 years in sentencing against former President Park, including 30 years for abuse of power, 12 years for loss to the state treasury, and 3 years for election law violations. Do you still think that was right and well done?"
Former Prosecutor General Yoon responded, "It's not about right or wrong; it was done according to the sentencing guidelines," adding, "The prosecution's sentencing requests are mechanically derived based on the sentencing guidelines."
Then, former lawmaker Yoo asked, "What do you think about pardoning former President Park?" Former Prosecutor General Yoon said, "Personally, considering the hardships she has endured, shouldn't she be allowed to return home?"
Yoo further attacked, saying, "You said she should serve 45 years, but now you say she should be pardoned?" To this, Yoon countered, "That is how it is handled in court, but a pardon is a political issue, isn't it?"
