[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jin-young] Opposition presidential candidates on the 26th called for the introduction of a special prosecutor regarding the controversy that the son of Gwak Sang-do, a member of the People Power Party, received a 5 billion won retirement payment from Hwacheon Daeyu. They also urged the party leadership to make a decisive move against Representative Gwak.

The Yoon Seok-yeol camp, through a statement by Lee Sang-il, director of public relations, said, "Things that are absolutely incomprehensible by common sense are being confirmed one by one," and urged, "Conduct a thorough investigation into all processes and financial flows of the Daejang-dong development."

Regarding the case of Representative Gwak's son, they emphasized, "Hwacheon Daeyu claims the payment was legal, but from the perspective of common sense and general norms, it is highly unusual," and added, "This issue, along with all other suspicions, must be thoroughly investigated through a special prosecutor's investigation."

Representative Hong Joon-pyo also stated on Facebook, "We are attacking Mayor Lee Jae-myung, and Mayor Lee Jae-myung is exposing the involvement of our side's personnel to survive," and argued, "It is difficult to uncover the truth without a special prosecutor. The ruling and opposition parties must promptly agree on a special prosecutor to calm the public's anger."

Former Representative Yoo Seung-min said, "If the reports are true, the party leadership must immediately expel and remove Representative Gwak from the party," and urged, "The party leadership must make a swift decision."

Former Jeju Governor Won Hee-ryong also raised his voice at a press conference, saying, "If anyone in the People Power Party is even slightly involved in the Daejang-dong gate, they must be immediately expelled, removed, and strong follow-up measures must be taken."

Representative Ha Tae-kyung said on Facebook, "I hope such a thing does not happen, but if there are any questionable figures within our party related to the Daejang-dong incident, we must be prepared to make harsh decisions for party reform," and added, "I respectfully request that the party conduct a clarification procedure to determine whether the 5 billion won retirement payment is related to Representative Gwak."
