[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Sumi] Former Dongyang University professor Jin Joong-kwon recently commented on the controversy surrounding rapper Noel (real name Jang Yong-jun), son of People Power Party lawmaker Jang Je-won, who was involved in unlicensed driving and assaulting a police officer, saying, "I want to hit him once."
Earlier, Jang Je-won, who serves as the head of the comprehensive situation room for Yoon Seok-yeol's People Power Party presidential campaign, expressed his intention to resign multiple times over the controversy involving his son Noel, but Yoon rejected these resignations.
In response, former professor Jin appeared on CBS Radio on the 24th and said, "If Candidate Yoon evaluated it that way, then there is nothing to be done, but I want to hit Noel once."
He added, "This is not a form of collective punishment. Kids don't listen, right? In my opinion, I believe that Lawmaker Jang should not be part of the campaign."
Noel caused a minor collision while driving without a license around 10:30 p.m. on the 18th in Banpo-dong, Seocho-gu, Seoul. When the police who arrived at the scene requested a breathalyzer test and identification, Noel refused and headbutted a police officer, leading to his arrest on the spot.
The next day, on the 19th, Noel apologized on his Instagram, saying, "I have nothing to say. I will accept all the punishment I deserve and strive to become a more mature member of society."
Meanwhile, Noel was previously indicted in September 2019 on charges including drunk driving and driver substitution. In June of last year, he was sentenced in the first trial to 1 year and 6 months in prison with a 2-year probation and ordered to complete 40 hours of a safe driving lecture.
