[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Hyun-seok] Chamtech, a subsidiary of BK Tops, a KOSPI-listed company specializing in lenses for LED lighting, announced on the 24th that it has started mass production of IR sensor lenses (infrared sensor lenses) for wireless earphones used by a global smartphone manufacturer (hereinafter referred to as A) at a scale of 3 million units per month from this month.
The IR sensor lens is a lens combined with an infrared sensor to detect the wearing status of earphones. Instead of the existing method of attaching PC lenses onto the IR sensor chip, Chamtech developed a method for the first time that inserts the IR sensor chip into the mold and simultaneously attaches an epoxy lens on top during production, drastically reducing process costs and improving waterproof performance.
In particular, Chamtech’s IR sensor lenses are scheduled to be adopted for A’s next-generation wireless earphone models and delivered as an integrated PCB package including the lens. The company stated that it expects sales of around 10 billion KRW from the IR sensor lens product line alone next year.
Additionally, Chamtech’s newly developed USB waterproof ring, launched in August, will enter mass production at a scale of 5 million units per month starting from November. Chamtech’s USB waterproof ring has been confirmed for application in A’s series models and has received positive responses from overseas mobile phone companies such as Huawei and Xiaomi.
Located in Namdong Industrial Complex, Incheon, Chamtech was established in 2000 and is a specialized company in lenses for LED lighting, holding a total of 11 technology patents including 6 related to LED lens molding. It was designated as a first-tier vendor for Samsung Electronics in 2013 and achieved export performance of 10 million USD in the same year. BK Tops acquired 100% of Chamtech’s shares in July last year.
